#708 The Legendary T-34/85 215号

Capturing the legendary T-34/85 215号 in action, using the Rye Field Model kit RM-5059 in 1:35 and some great resin figures from YUFAN Model. No electronics in this one.

Notes

People’s Volunteer Army T-34 No 215 (中国人民志愿军215号) is legendary for knocking out five M46 Patton tanks and multiple UN bunkers in early July 1953, just before the armistice ending hostilities in the Korean war.

No215c

It is now preserved in the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution (中国人民革命军事博物馆) in a pretty dramatic display that inspired this diorama featuring the Rye Field Model 1:35 kit if the 215 (RM-5059) and some resin figures from Yufan Model.

It was the Micro Machines Podcast Cold War Group Build that finally kicked me into action to build this;-)

The Kits

The main kit here is the T-34/85 Chinese Volunteer “215” Rye Field Model No. RM-5059 1:35. It is a wonderfully kit that almost builds itself. This particular model appears to be out of production now, but I believe it is the same basic model in Rye Field Model’s other T-34/85 kits.

The T-34 sat on the shelf for quite some time until I found the some really good Chinese People’s Volunteer resin figures - Thirty-Eight Degree Line YUFAN Model No. YFWW-1639 1:35

This page is a web-friendly rendering of my project notes shared in the LEAP GitHub repository.

LEAP is just my personal collection of projects. Two main themes have emerged in recent years, sometimes combined:

  • electronics - usually involving an Arduino or other microprocessor in one way or another. Some are full-blown projects, while many are trivial breadboard experiments, intended to learn and explore something interesting
  • scale modelling - I caught the bug after deciding to build a Harrier during covid to demonstrate an electronic jet engine simulation. Let the fun begin..
To be honest, I haven't quite figured out if these two interests belong in the same GitHub repo or not. But for now - they are all here!

Projects are often inspired by things found wild on the net, or ideas from the many great electronics and scale modelling podcasts and YouTube channels. Feel free to borrow liberally, and if you spot any issues do let me know (or send a PR!). See the individual projects for credits where due.
