Notes

Giuseppe Mario Bellanca emigrated from Italy to the US in 1911, founding the Bellanca Aircraft Company in 1927.

The Bellanca CH-300 Pacemaker, a six-seat utility aircraft, had it’s first flight in 1929.

A plane in flight needs at least a pilot, so I grabbed a somewhat suitable civilian figure. Not very visible in the final product.

build01e

fitting the clear parts is a bit tricky, but after a little fettling it all goes together quite well

build02a build02b

plane is basically finished, now thinking about the final presentation..

The eye-catching @dorawings kit of the Bellanca CH-300 Pacemaker & my appropriately? kitsch presentation: Inter Island Airways livery over the beaches of Hawaii.

Dora Wings of Ukraine have a wonderfully eclectic range of aircraft from the “golden era” of flight. Eugen told his story to Chris Meddings on the Models from Ukraine podcast Episode 9 - it is well worth a listen if you are interested in how small kit business became one of the best in the world, and continues to do so in the middle of a war.

This page is a web-friendly rendering of my project notes shared in the LEAP GitHub repository.

LEAP is just my personal collection of projects. Two main themes have emerged in recent years, sometimes combined:

  • electronics - usually involving an Arduino or other microprocessor in one way or another. Some are full-blown projects, while many are trivial breadboard experiments, intended to learn and explore something interesting
  • scale modelling - I caught the bug after deciding to build a Harrier during covid to demonstrate an electronic jet engine simulation. Let the fun begin..
To be honest, I haven't quite figured out if these two interests belong in the same GitHub repo or not. But for now - they are all here!

Projects are often inspired by things found wild on the net, or ideas from the many great electronics and scale modelling podcasts and YouTube channels. Feel free to borrow liberally, and if you spot any issues do let me know (or send a PR!). See the individual projects for credits where due.
